GMES and Africa: 2nd Joint Service Workshop, Zanzibar, 6-10 Sep 2021
GMES & Africa Programme convened a joint service workshop from 06 - 10 June 2021 in Zanzibar, Tanzania, that brought together all the twelve (12) consortia from the Natural & Water Resources and Marine & Coastal thematic areas, as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Background
In 2018 and 2019, the GMES & Africa Programme held two separate workshops on its two chapters: water and natural resources – Coastal and Marine with the aim: 1) to discuss and provide solutions on the technical issues on the four pillars of GMES & Africa; 2) to share experiences, lessons learnt and best practices from consortia, partners, and stakeholders; 3) to identify cross-fertilization mechanisms among the consortia and to engage all partners.
These 2 workshops brought the GMES & Africa consortia, partners, stakeholders, and end-users to have common understanding of services design and development. Training and capacity development activities and outreach and engagement strategy plan are adopted and implemented by consortia and all partners in a consistent way.
AUC is bringing for the second times the regional and continental stakeholders (policy makers, private sector, civil society, academia, etc.) together through this continental joint workshop. This workshop is to foster dialogue and networking with the expected result of uptake of GMES & Africa services.
Objectives and Rationale of the 2nd JSW
To foster dialogue and networking and create awareness of Earth Observation among stakeholders including the private sector, policy makers, academia, and the public. Specifically, the workshop will seek to strengthen the involvement of the private sector, academia and end users with service development and delivery actions implemented by the consortia.
To strengthen cross-fertilization mechanisms already identified among consortia during the previous service workshops and to identify new collaborative mechanisms among consortia and stakeholders in different thematic areas.
The exchanges during the workshop will share the results and best practices with respect to the GMES and Africa Programme outputs, Access to data, Products and Services, Education and Training, Outreach and awareness raising.
