The AU-EU to formulate and implement long-term priorities to strengthen Africa-Europe cooperation on Science Technology and Innovation
The African Union and the European Union hold High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD), Senior Officials Meeting and Stakeholders event on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) from 06 to 08 November 2019, at the headquarters of the African Union Commission, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event serves as a platform for regular exchanges on research and innovation policy and aims to formulate and implement long-term priorities to strengthen Africa-Europe cooperation on STI.

The biannual Senior Officials Meetings of the HLPD take stock of achievements of the partnerships and establish new priority areas of cooperation for the future. The HLPD Bureau which is co-chaired by representatives of the African Union Commission (Department for Human Resources, Science and Technology (AUC/HRST)) and the European Commission (Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD)) and comprises further representatives from several member states on both continents.
The Senior Officials Meetings (SOM) of the HLPD comprise senior officials of the relevant authorities concerned with STI in the African Union Member States, the African Union Commission, the European Union Member States and the European Commission.
The Global Monitoring for Environment Security and Africa (GMES and Africa) Programme is one of the AU-EU cooperation programmes on applications of earth observation for the sustainable development of Africa. The GMES and Africa Programme was showcased during this event.
