The 12 Awarded Consortia
Thirteen consortia were selected through a competitive call for proposal process. The SADC led consortium was outed after 12 months. The remaining consortia involve 122 institutions (leaders, partners, and associates) in 45 African countries and 6 European countries - see below (SITE1 links to the page dedicated to the Project on the website of the leader of the consortium whereas SITE2 links to the Project's website, if any)

These grantees can be grouped in three different clusters, namely:
- Group (1) Two Consortia that cover geographical areas not covered by predecessors program i.e. MESA, AMESD and PUMA: (Northern Africa) NARSS, OSS ;
- Group (2) Six consortia that were beneficiaries of predecessors programs : CICOS, ICPAC, MOI, RCMRD, SADC-CSC, UoG) ; and
- Group (3) Five Consortia that were not beneficiaries of predecessors programs : AGEOS, CSE, CSIR, CSSTE, SASSCAL.
