The CSSTE consortium holds its first regional workshop on flood monitoring in West Africa

One of the GMES and Africa implementing consortium in West Africa, CSSTE led, holds its first regional technical workshop at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny University's scientific centre in Bingerville, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire on on August 14, 2019.



The theme of the regional technical workshop is Flood Monitoring and Assessment Services at Different Scales for West Africa.

The workshop brought together Space and Earth Observation experts, from five countries in the West African sub-region. The experts shared their experiences and views on possible solutions for the prevention and efficient management of the impacts of flood in West Africa.

The results of the workshop will be made available to local committees and target populations (farmers, traders, fishermen), disaster management agencies, meteorological organizations.

The consortium is led by the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Africa (ARCSSTE), based in the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Nigeria. It implements one of the actions under the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security and Africa (GMES & AFRICA) called MIFMASS, for Multi-Scale Flood Monitoring and Assessment Services for West Africa.  

The event was relayed by some of the media houses based in Côte d'Ivoire - Afrique-sur-7, Linfodrome.com, and News.Abidjan.net, which featured how GMES and Africa contributes in managing the impacts of floods in West Africa.
