EUMETSAT: 15 March 2021, Eumetsat held a manufacturer consultation on visualisation of MTG Africa data and products
EUMETSAT is actively preparing for the transition to MTG in Africa (2023-2024), in close coordination with African satellite data users in the WMO RA-I Dissemination Expert Group (RAIDEG), and the African Union Commission
MTG will offer an unprecedented wealth of weather and climate information in support to various socio-economic sectors in Africa. In view of the increased volume of data, the transition to MTG presents also challenges.
In order to optimise the EUMETCast-Africa bandwidth, a set of specific “MTG – Africa“ products was defined based on consultation with the RAIDEG. The document ‘MTG EUMETCast Africa Product User Guide [AfricaPUG][1]” provide a description of these products.
The meeting was meant to get feedback from manufacturers about plans to expand the functionality of SW suite or stations to allow for the processing and visualisation of these MTG-Africa products. The expanded functionality should include a degree of flexibility in case of future changes to the MTG-Africa baseline (e.g. change of spatial resolution or periodicity for some channel).
MTG will continue MSG with significant improvements (see the table 1 below, in FR). A certain number of new services will come along with MTG, EUMETview, EUMETSAT Data store, Data tailor...
