GMES & Africa phase II is a continuity and will built on the achievements of phase I. The Consortia supported financially by the Programme are requested to improve the existing services in their region by investigating mechanisms to ensure that the services become user-driven and sustainable at the technical and financial levels.

The G&A series of Service Workshop are the ideal platforms for the consortia to identify collaborative mechanisms. These workshops are meant to bring together consortia that re addressing the same service to share knowledge and to facilitate cross-fertilization among them. Mature services, which would demonstrate their usefulness, will be applied to other African regions.

The Accra workshop, which follows a similar one held in Lusaka, Zambia, will focus on key implementation pillars of GMES and Africa, in particular its Policy and Institutional Framework, as well as Knowledge Management. It will seek to explore collaborative mechanisms through synergies and cross-fertilization.

Some 75 participants from various stakeholder and EO interest groups will descend on Accra for the conclave. Among them are officials of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Union Commission and European partner institutions.
