GMES and Africa Training: Socioeconomic Valuation of Degraded Lands and Wetlands, 6-8 March 2023

RCMRD in collaboration with GEO-SPATIAL RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL (GRI) is organizing a online training to raise awareness of the tool and build the capacity of stakeholders on the applications and use of the Cost of Land and Wetland Degradation (COLWED)
COLWED is an earth observation-based tool, intended for sustainable socio economic valuation of natural resources, to support monitoring as well as restoration of degraded ecosystems by informing policy intervention processes at regional and national levels.



COLWED tool was developed through a collaborative effort by RCMRD and GRI. The training will be conducted from 6th to 8th March for 2.5 hours each day beginning, from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm EAT time.

Including the one led by RCMRD, the GMES and Africa program supports 8 consortia dealing with the thematic application of EO in Water and natural resources, Marine and coastal areas. 

Wetland monitoring is in the portfolio of 5 of the 8 consortia: OSS for North Africa (http://projet.oss-online.org/GMES-Africa/), RCMRD for East Africa, CSE for West Africa (http://gdzhao-blog.com/), and SASSCAL for Southern Africa (https://www.sasscal.org/wemast/). In Central Africa, CICOS is monitoring the hydrological balance of the sub-basins and the Monitoring of the dynamics of wetlands under forests (https://www.cicos.int/gmes-africa/).
