The GMES and Africa Forum Report is available online
The first GMES & Africa Support Programme forum was co-organized by the African Union Commission and the Government of Gabon through the "Agence Gabonaise d’Études et d’Observation Spatiale" (AGEOS) from 19th to 23rd November 2018 in Libreville, Gabon.
The first GMES and Africa Forum which theme was “Unlocking the potential of Earth Observation as a key driver of Africa’s sustainable development” was one of the communication platforms that encourages and promotes the exchange of views among Earth Observation (EO) service providers and end-users in Africa. During its implementation, the GMES & Africa Support Programme should organize 2 continental forums and 2 continental workshops.
The forum brought together more than 400 Earth Observation service and data providers, grass-roots level users, decision-makers, academia, the private sector, research institutions from Africa and all over the world with the aim of addressing how to unlock the potential of Earth Observation services for the socio-economic transformation for the achievement of the “Africa We Want”, as articulated in the Agenda 2063.
This summary report underlines the key findings from the Forum discussed during high-level panels parallel sessions, on water and land management and monitoring, coastal and marine resources management and monitoring, data, infrastructure, training, policies, strategic actions, the recommendations, the observed impacts.
