Links between GMES and Africa and GOOS

The Copernicus System is based on a constellation of satellites rounding the Earth and offering to various users a continuous flow of data (observations). The Copernicus marine environment monitoring service provides regular and systematic reference information on the state of the physical oceans and regional seas.
GMES and Africa is meant to extend Copernicus to Africa. GMES and Africa Phase 1 (2017-2021) supported 4 consortia dealing with marine and coastal areas: The Consortia led by CSIR (South Africa), MOI (Mauritius), and UoG (Ghana), have been offering services around the state of oceans and seas in their areas of working. The UoG GMES and Africa Phase 2 has reconducted technical and financial support to CSIR and UoG for an additional period of 4 years (2022-2025). CISR will work with MOI and UOG will include Mediterranean sea.
The UoG and CSIR led Consortia also worked with MERCATOR Ocean International on some of those matters.
