GMES and Africa Technical Committee: EU partners describe the Programme as a reference point for the European and African Unions Commissions
The Programme management stakeholders are in Dakar, Senegal to engage and mobilize African Institutions for improved operational, technical, and scientific implementation of the programme. The three-day exercise which began on Monday, 28th November, is part of the Technical Committee meeting involving the African and European Union Commissions as well as consortia leaders who will examine the results and discuss ways of strengthening the pillars and implementation axis of the programme.
At the opening of the meeting, Catherine Ghyoot of the European Commission referred to GMES and Africa as a reference point for the African Union Commission and the European Commission. She underlined the continuous need for the spirit of working together which makes the engagement more constructive and the programme more successful. The GMES and Africa Coordinator, Dr. Tidiane Ouattara said the TC meeting is an opportunity to consolidate the results and foster dialogue on the outputs. According to him, GMES and Africa has come thus far, thanks to EC and consortia collaboration
The Technical Committee meeting involves presentations on the results, gaps and ways forward on improving the management and the outputs of the programmes. The outputs cover Policy and Institutional Framework; Data and Infrastructure; Service Development; Training and Capacity Development; Knowledge Management; and Outreach, Uptake and Dissemination. A roadmap with specific deliverables and timelines will follow the deliberations on the outputs.
