Background

 GMES & Africa already held two separate workshops on its two chapters: Water and Natural Resources, and Marine and Coastal Areas (see below the links) with the aim:

  1. to discuss and provide solutions on the technical issues on the four pillars of GMES & Africa;
  2. to share experiences, lessons learnt and best practices from consortia, partners and stakeholders; and
  3. to identify cross-fertilization mechanisms among the consortia as well as to engage all partners.

Objectives and Rationale

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  1. Evaluate progress on implementation of GMES & Africa in terms of experiences, results and lessons learnt;
  2. Foster dialogue and engagement on ways of improving services, products, training and communications delivery;
  3. Evaluate achievements and drawbacks in cross-fertilization of practices among consortia, and identify mechanisms for greater collaboration; and
  4. Take stock of the realizations made by GMES & Africa cluster groups (Network of Academia; Women in GMES) with a view to strengthening their delivery.

Methodology

The workshop will feature presentations by Consortia and European Technical Partners on their main activities. The presentations will be structured according to outputs, followed by general discussions among all participants.
