Save the date: Discover how the Copernicus Marine Data and Products can cater for Africa

After two successful international events in Asia and America, the Copernicus Marine Service is organizing a 3-day online event to inform African audience on the use and possible applications of the Copernicus Marine Service free and open worldwide data





Objectives

This event wishes to engage with the marine communities in Africa, and shares its global ocean data products and knowledge.

It will be held in english with simultaneous french interpretation. All participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Be informed on the Copernicus Marine Service offer (open-access and free for all marine data, visualization tool, trainings, events, user support etc.).
  • Be trained in using the Copernicus Marine Data, in particular the comprehensive portfolio of Global Marine products.
  • A three day Online event which aspires to inform the audience from Africa on the use and all possible applications of the Copernicus Marine Service free and open worldwide data.
 
Targeted participants

People from all African countries who take a keen interest in marine data:
  • scientists,
  • university students,
  • researchers,
  • national institutes,
  • industry communities,
  • private companies,
  • public marine policies,
  • state authorities.

Implementation


30 Nov. 2021, Webinar 

The first week, the webinar "Dive into the Copernicus Marine Service" is to raise awareness of the Copernicus Marine Service offer, particularly with operational information on:
  • How to access the data through the catalogue. 
  • How to find information (news, events, blue markets etc.), and use the elearning material thanks to an overview of the Copernicus Marine website. 
  • How data can be used in downstream services and applications through use cases testimonies.
  • How to visualize marine data with MyOcean Viewer presentation.

7-8 Dec. 2021, Workshop

The second week, the workshop "Let's go further with the Copernicus Marine Data" will combine during live appointments "products" and "demo" sessions. 
  • The products session is to introduce the global products provided by the Copernicus Marine Service: insitu & satellite observation products, model products.
  • The demo session is devised for beginners and mid-level users to whom will be presented a new environment like a JupyterLab with Jupyter Notebooks especially developed for the workshop or with new tools like GIS tool, Panoply.
Caution: For this training session, attendees have to be registered on the Copernicus Marine Service.
