The hackathon was on the valorization of Earth Observation through innovative technologies and solutions linked to Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.

It marked the first mass use of the ESA Dunia platform in many African countries, and was organized under the theme "Hackathon on the use of Earth Observation for the sustainable management of natural resources in Africa", targeting startups, students and IT developers.

A total of 254 people from 34 African countries registered for the competition, and actively took part in the 2 training sessions held in virtual mode a week before the competition.

The Hackathon itself took place in hybrid mode at the Manouba University Campus in Tunisia and was opened by the President University. In total, 14 teams from 8 African countries took part: Algeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Tunisia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
